Damn…we finally get to play UCLA-FINALLY!!

It’s not official but according to the Union Tribune, the Aztecs get to play UCLA! Hey, don’t do us any favors UCLA…but,we’ll take it. I for one have been waiting for UCLA to get off their high-horse and play SDSU and its about time. They will play each other in the Wooden Classic and should get the attention of the pretentious ESPN media whores. The article by the UT is below. Enjoy. San Diego State will … Read entire article »

MW coaches agree on Rebels’ advantage

LAS VEGAS-UniversityofWyomingcoach Larry Shyatt has already said he doesn’t like the fact his team must play No. 20 UNLV on its home court for the second time in five days when the Mountain West Tournament begins Thursday. The other coaches in the MW agree.  “I think it’s absolutely unfair,”San DiegoStatecoach Steve Fisher said during Monday’s MW coaches’ teleconference. “It’s not done in any other major conference. … It makes no sense, other than it’s good for the TV when it pans to the crowd and shows all those people. “Nobody wants to play Vegas on their own floor. The last time I looked, nobody has beaten them there this year.” UNLV finished 16-0 at the Thomas &MackCenterand won those games by more than 20 points a game. Fisher gets a 4 year extension: but all isn’t so rosy on the back-end

Steve Fisher gets an extension and the Aztecs evade vicissitude at the coaching helm. However, there is a caveat. When Steve Fisher leaves, Brian Dutcher is taking over. What!! Are you freak-in kidding me? After decades of playing favorites with Mr. Bottom Dweller, SDSU finally experiences what fans for decades have been waiting for: victory and sustained success! Now, all that momentum and rebuilding stands a good possibility of falling apart in a matter of 5 years. Visions of a Rick Patino version for head coach at SDSU would have been a natural segway from Fisher. Moreover, the recruiting bliss would continue and the winning ways that took soooo long to achieve would remain. So we thought; so we all thought that our new athletic director was one we could … Read entire article »

Yeah: Bill Self is LIAR!

From the Sand Diego Union “Young indicated he had contact with Jayhawks assistant coach Kurtis Townsend before informing SDSU coaches about his impending recruiting trip to Lawrence, Kan.” Bill Self said otherwise when interviewed after recruiting Young. Both stories are inconsistence and smell of impropriety. What-a-Joke! Kansas and the entire basketball organization are hypocritical sell-outs of morality and integrity. Bill, your nothing but a two-bit liar. Article viewed:148 … Read entire article »

JJ O’Brien makes it official!

J.J. O’Brien made his transfer from Utah official and signed a financial-aid agreement with San Diego State, which also allows Aztecs basketball coaches to talk about him. “I recruited him really hard out of high school and was very saddened when we didn’t get him,” Coach Steve Fisher said of the 6-7 forward who will have three years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next season. “He’s a winner. He’s a guy who makes everyone around him better. “Very intelligent, can play multiple positions, a phenomenal asset to us both as a person and as a player.” Echoing his comments is former Utah coach Jim Boylen, who was replaced after the season by Larry Krystkowiak. “He was a great guy to coach,” Boylen said. “He’s a big-time, versatile guy who can guard … Read entire article »

Is there a bounce in Basketball recruiting already?

It has been over two months since the greatest Basketball season in SDSU history concluded. With Kawhi prematurely entering the NBA, and the loss of three other notable starters, SDSU is ripe with scholarships. Now, one would surmise that any recruiting jump SDSU might get from this years success would probably occur in a year or two. However, after evaluating the talent-laden landscape of potential candidates, SDSU stands a good chance of landing a couple key players that might just add an immediate impact. One notable prospect is shooting guard Matt Shrigley from La Costa Canyon. He is 6-5 and scores a 90 scout rating. From ESPN’s evaluation: “Shrigley is a solid jump shooter out to 20-feet. He gets good lift on his shot and his release is quite good. He … Read entire article »

Response to Steve’s Letter

That’s right Steve, step up and suppress freedom of expression. I know you were thinking the same thing when you made your comments about the Wyoming Coach’s firing. You couldn’t keep your mouth shut; in other words, you were expressing yourself via the First Amendment. Yet, the MWC was quick to quash that, and reprimand you accordingly. Was that fair-no! You were entitled to your opinion. Writing a letter admoniting the student body on what and what not to say, wear or show is Un-American-that’s right I said it!! As much as you have done for the University, tampering into the affairs of Individual rights and liberties is one area you must to stay out of. If BYU; its fanatical religion and the fans can’t take it then don’t watch or … Read entire article »

DeShawn Stephens going to SDSU!

DeShawn Stephens, a 6-foot-8, 210-pound sophomore at Santa Monica (Calif.) College de-commits from Utah State and heads south to SDSU. With prospect Bryant Crowder out of the picture, this stands to be a great pick-up for SDSU. His athleticism will merge well into Fisher’s offensive and defensive schemes. He should see many minutes early in next year’s campaign. Looks as if Mr. Fisher has found his replacement for Billy White. With the true freshman Labradford Franklin and Jamal Franklin along with James Rohan, the class of 2011-12 is shaping up to be another explosive team. Oh, and if Kawhi makes the right decision by staying for his Junior year, well, all I can say is-WOW! Article viewed:130 … Read entire article »

SDSU Basketball is good; so good, teams are afraid to play them

When I read articles that tell the story of Coach Fisher’s struggles to schedule formidable opponents, I reminisce over the Fred Trenkle era and just laugh. What a difference a decade makes; SDSU Basketball, the once basement dweller of the NCAA; the laughing-stock of the Collegiate Basketball Aristocrats, has now grown up and guess what: no buddy wants to play with them. Ask Fisher why he is having difficulties scheduling teams to play his squad, and the response is somewhat incredulous:   “They all say: ‘We’re not going to play you, no way,’ ” I remember going to Cox Arena when it first opened and watching games with about 2000 fans in the Arena. You could purchase a nose-bleed seat and move to a court-side seat by half-time: Ahhh…yes, those were the … Read entire article »
