Utah and BYU: Dumb and Dumber!
If there is one thing I cannot tolerate its irrational exuberance. First, we had Utah, the burgeoning step-child and recent “second-choice” acquisition into the desperate PAC 10. Now, of all things, we are witnesses to a shining example of what happens when too many pseudo-intellects huddle into one room and play what-if scenarios. This is a classic example of Dumb and Dumber! BYU has managed to conjure-up a scenario that delivers grandeur’s of fame and fortune by becoming a rogue independent. Outstanding! Not only does their selfish, self-deprecating act compromise their ability to reach a championship game-ever; but, it seals the fate of the MWC’s chances of receiving BCS eligibility sooner rather than later-if ever! Utah decided that they ought to compete against the likes of UCLA and USC to improve … Read entire article »

Boise State In! Who’s Next?
With Boise State accepting the MWC invitation to join the conference, the attention now turns to who’s next. With conference realignment rumors indicating that Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will be heading to the PAC-10, the remaining teams in the BIG 12 and where they will go remains to be seen. Let’s examine who’s left and who might be knocking on the doors of the MWC for entrance. Assuming the PAC-10 scenario pans-out, the BIG-12 (now the BIG-5), would have the following teams left over: Iowa State, Baylor, Kansas, Kansas St. and Missouri. Now, assuming the BIG 10 (now the Big 12, but still known as the Big 10) decides to go elsewhere to grow their conference into a super conference, the 5 remaining teams would have … Read entire article »

MWC Delays Boise Invite: Surprised?
Somewhat: but, then again kudos to the MWC Presidents clairvoyance. I, like most, was completely caught off guard when the MWC delayed inviting Boise State into the conference. But it is clear as of today why they made that decision. With Nebraska heading to the Big Ten and Colorado off to the PAC-10, the flood gates have now swung wide open! So, what does all this mean for the MWC? Well, the best-case scenario (in my opinion) would be the following: Missouri, Kansas and K-State receive invites to the MWC. Missouri offers by far the best overall package; they would provide a solid Football program as well as a competitive Basketball program. Missouri finished with an 8-5 record last year and the Basketball program performed well too finishing strong with … Read entire article »

12 Teams? 10 teams? 14 teams? Expansion talk has run amok!
It is difficult not to be caught up in the expansion talk. I have held out commenting over such hyperbole based solely on conjecture. Nevertheless, the recent cornucopia of articles written on behave of those seeking to proclaim themselves as the perennial prognosticators of the sporting world, has compelled me to chime in an offer my 2-cents regarding the MWC expansion. Firstly, lets understand what it is that the MWC is seeking. Well, that’s an easy one: BCS acceptance and the automatic bid by satisfying the BCS AQ qualifications. From the Orlando Sentinel: BCS executive director Bill Hancock told the athletic directors and conference commissioners at the meetings they should keep an eye on the MWC. “If they meet the threshold, they’ll be the seventh,” he told reporters. So, what is needed … Read entire article »

Jim Sterk is New AD for SDSU:
Its interesting to note that SDSU has chosen Jim Sterk as the new AD. Interesting because UNLV recently chose Jim Livengood from Arizona; both are from the PAC-10. Couple these two new hires with Larry Scott’s, (the newly appointed PAC-10 commissioner), consideration for expanding the PAC-10 by two more teams, and you have a recipe that positions both of these schools as ripe candidates for selection into the PAC-10. Recent National News media outlet reports have suggested several scenarios regarding the potential pool of candidates. Ted Miller from ESPN said: “the first issue is the small pool of potential candidates. The teams most often mentioned — mostly by fans — are Utah, BYU, Boise State, San Diego State, Colorado, Fresno State, Nevada, UNLV and TCU.” If one were to focus their attention … Read entire article »
