Hey Coaches and ESPN: I think the Aztecs are a Top 25 team!
If ESPN had their way, I am certain that SDSU would remain out of the Top 25. Nevertheless, let us examine the facts. Texas A&M who is currently ranked number 25 in the AP Poll and 24th in the ESPN coaches poll, beat St. Johns by one-point back on Novemeber 18th. Why is this significant you ask? St. John’s lost to Arizona (81-72) on November 17th when Arizona was ranked 16th in the nation. SDSU … Read entire article »

Is there a bounce in Basketball recruiting already?
It has been over two months since the greatest Basketball season in SDSU history concluded. With Kawhi prematurely entering the NBA, and the loss of three other notable starters, SDSU is ripe with scholarships. Now, one would surmise that any recruiting jump SDSU might get from this years success would probably occur in a year or two. However, after evaluating the talent-laden landscape of potential candidates, SDSU stands a good chance of landing a couple key players that might just add an immediate impact. One notable prospect is shooting guard Matt Shrigley from La Costa Canyon. He is 6-5 and scores a 90 scout rating. From ESPN’s evaluation: “Shrigley is a solid jump shooter out to 20-feet. He gets good lift on his shot and his release is quite good. He … Read entire article »

ESPN’s Man-Crush over the Big East
It’s funny; I was listening to Dave and Doris commentate the St. Johns-Pittsburgh game and Dave was beside himself. Filled with the typical ESPN quasi-hyperbolic pontification over Big east teams; he continued to claim that St. Johns was relevant again; he tried to justify St. Johns lousy seasons of the past; and the dribble continued. I had to step back when he proudly proclaimed St. John’s relevance again with a 16-9 record; yet, there is SDSU: a Cinderella Story; a basketball season Hollywood would have had trouble contriving; a school and a season that has set the college basketball nation on fire west of the Rockies; and yet, not one mention of the team or the story. ESPN is a Joke. Fraught with subjective East Coast bias; mired … Read entire article »

Aztecs disrespected for the second week: remain 6th ranked!
SDSU for the second week in a row gets disrespected-stays 6th ranked, yet has the best record in the Nation; Kansas moves up-okay, I can accept that; Norte Dame, a team playing way beyond themselves (hell they can’t believe it), moves up in the rankings to a hyperinflated No.7-What the heck is going on there?; Ohio State drops like a feather, but should have fell lilke a rock after losing to No. 14 Wisconsin; Texas has three losses and are still ranked above 4 teams with better records. Welcome to the sham they call the Big East Poll: I mean the AP Poll. It’s a joke folks! Chime in and tell me what you think. I am interested in your thoughts. Aztec fans give it to me: let everyone know that … Read entire article »

Chad Jeffries commits to SDSU
Chad Jeffries, a 6’3”, 195 pound QB prospect from Glendora High School (Glendora, CA). Jeffries shows poise in the pocket and agile and quick enough to elude the pass rush. His arm strength looks good; has a quick release and great accuracy and mechanics. These skill sets should continue to improve under the tutelage of Sipe and Hoke. Most notable skill is his ability to by time (looks similar to Donavon Mcnabb). Chad had his choices, most notably: Oregon State, UTEP, Utah and Boise state. Yet, he chose SDSU. A top prospect this one ends up as a good pick-up for SDSU. I give this recruit a B+: he needs some seasoning but there isn’t any reason not believe that he will emerge as a top asset in the 2011 SDSU … Read entire article »

Aztecs getting a lot of National Attention
First it was Andy Katz from ESPN giving the Aztecs some well-deserved respect by naming them as a preseason top 25 team. Now, ESPN’s Pat Forde has included SDSU on his list of teams to watch in 2010-11. SDSU is on a list that contains 24 of the nations elite teams. No other team in California is mentioned on this list. From associatedcontent.com: “The Aztecs had one of their best teams last season, and they have been steadily improving for several years now. The Aztecs may not make it to the big dance, but I see them pushing into the Elite Eight next year.” I’ve been following this team for 20 years now and its about time SDSU is getting the recognition its deserves. Its long over due but as … Read entire article »
