San Diego State may be headed to the Big East + West Conference

The Big East continues its major conference expansion plans, reaching out to BYU and San Diego State as potential new candidates to join the league. “There is a push,” BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said when asked about the Big East during his press conference Monday. “And there are conversations that are in place for the Big East to convince or to have BYU join that conference. I trust our Athletic Director [Tom Holmoe] and President [Cecil] Samuelson to deal with all that.” UCF, currently a member of Conference USA, is among the first six schools the Big East targeted to replace West Virginia, TCU, Pittsburgh and Syracuse defecting to the Big 12 and Atlantic Coast conferences. The Knights are expected to formally accept an invitation to join the Big East in all sports this week. UCF is slated to begin competing in the Big East … Read entire article »

SDSU 2-time defending MWC Champs!

LAS VEGAS — What’s tougher than being a 15-seed in the NCAA tournament? Well, other than maybe being a 16-seed, it’s being the poor 15-seed that draws likely No. 2 seed San Diego State in next week’s first round. BYU found out on Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas what a season’s worth of pent-up frustration can lead the Aztecs to do, as SDSU thumped the Cougars in the Mountain West Conference tournament title game, 72-54, avenging their only two regular season setbacks. Now imagine what a few decades of built-up postseason angst will feel like for an opponent. Yes, a program that is on the verge of claiming one of the top eight seeds in the field of 68, has never won a game in the NCAA tournament. The Aztecs are 0-6 all-time in … Read entire article »

BYU player Brandon Davies Suspended: he had no code!

Brandon Davies, the third-leading scorer for the third-ranked Brigham Young men’s basketball team, will not play the remainder of the season for violating the school’s honor code. This of course doesn’t surprise me. You know, the BYU cronies will be quick to point out the lack of class that SDSU has-right! I would highly advise all of you BYU hypocrites out there, concern yourself first with your own seedy elements within the BYU Basketball ruse! What a joke! Article viewed:152 … Read entire article »

BYU gets lucky from behind the ARC and the better team lost!

BYU stood little chance of winning the game except, if and only if, they got hot from behind the ARC. They did and they won. This is a classic case of the better team losing once again. As evident by the stats, BYU was over powered in the paint and really had no answer on the offensive side other than shooting from treville all day and hoping that the ball went in: that’s what we call luck folks. Remember, this is a team that AVERAGES 37% from behind the arc per game. They had no business shooting the way they did; and not being able to replicate that performance in the tournament will certaintly mean the quick demise of BYU. SDSU is clearly the better team athletically, and they showed … Read entire article »

Response to Steve’s Letter

That’s right Steve, step up and suppress freedom of expression. I know you were thinking the same thing when you made your comments about the Wyoming Coach’s firing. You couldn’t keep your mouth shut; in other words, you were expressing yourself via the First Amendment. Yet, the MWC was quick to quash that, and reprimand you accordingly. Was that fair-no! You were entitled to your opinion. Writing a letter admoniting the student body on what and what not to say, wear or show is Un-American-that’s right I said it!! As much as you have done for the University, tampering into the affairs of Individual rights and liberties is one area you must to stay out of. If BYU; its fanatical religion and the fans can’t take it then don’t watch or … Read entire article »

Letter From Steve Fisher to the SDSU Student Body

Dear Aztec Faithful - We know the energy and enthusiasm brought by The Show is what makes Viejas Arena one of the toughest home courts in the country. It is important to remember that when you are in the student section, you represent something greater than yourself. You represent San Diego State, and we need your help to make sure the representation of our university is a positive one. Our upcoming game against top ten opponent BYU will be televised nationally by CBS, and will be one of the biggest games in the respective histories of both programs. We always encourage The Show to continue to be the most creative, funny, and loudest student section in America, but we cannot cross the line into topics that are out of bounds and … Read entire article »

Again, Aztecs on losing end of bad call

Yep, would’nt you know….. From Sign-On San Diego: If they weren’t feeling it already, the San Diego State Aztecs have got to be feeling a little snake-bitten. For the second time in three games, the Aztecs were on the sour end of a critical call (or non-call in the Missouri game) that ended up making a significant difference in the outcome of a game. Coincidentally, both occurred in both of the Aztecs losses this season. In the third quarter of SDSU’s 24-21 loss to BYU Saturday night in Provo, Utah, Cougars running back JJ Di Luigi appeared to fumble during a 3-yard run and the ball was recovered by SDSU’s B.J. Williams. The ruling on the field was that Di Luigi was down before the ball came out, but significant video evidence … Read entire article »

They are who we thought they were!!

That, of course, hearkens back to Dennis Green’s comment regarding the infamous loss to the Chicago Bears after leading 23-3 in the fourth quarter. The Aztecs did not lose in that fashion but, they lost and for most Aztec loyalist’s, this isn’t a surprise. Why, because they are who we thought they were; the Aztec’s that is. SDSU football has improved enough this year to triumph over the teams that they were expected to beat. In other words, it is safe to say that losses to Cal-Poly are a thing of the past. However, losses to Missouri, BYU and more than likely to TCU, UTAH and Air Force are probably going to happen. I know, call me pessimistic, but more accurately you can refer to me as a realist. SDSU … Read entire article »

Utah and BYU: Dumb and Dumber!

If there is one thing I cannot tolerate its irrational exuberance. First, we had Utah, the burgeoning step-child and recent “second-choice” acquisition into the desperate  PAC 10.  Now, of all things, we are witnesses to a shining example of what happens when too many pseudo-intellects huddle into one room and play what-if scenarios. This is a classic example of Dumb and Dumber! BYU has managed to conjure-up a scenario that delivers grandeur’s of fame and fortune by becoming a rogue independent. Outstanding! Not only does their selfish, self-deprecating act compromise their ability to reach a championship game-ever; but, it seals the fate of the MWC’s chances of receiving BCS eligibility sooner rather than later-if ever! Utah decided that they ought to compete against the likes of UCLA and USC to improve … Read entire article »
