MW coaches agree on Rebels’ advantage

LAS VEGAS-UniversityofWyomingcoach Larry Shyatt has already said he doesn’t like the fact his team must play No. 20 UNLV on its home court for the second time in five days when the Mountain West Tournament begins Thursday. The other coaches in the MW agree.  “I think it’s absolutely unfair,”San DiegoStatecoach Steve Fisher said during Monday’s MW coaches’ teleconference. “It’s not done in any other major conference. … It makes no sense, other than it’s good for the TV when it pans to the crowd and shows all those people. “Nobody wants to play Vegas on their own floor. The last time I looked, nobody has beaten them there this year.” UNLV finished 16-0 at the Thomas &MackCenterand won those games by more than 20 points a game. Aztecs beat 23rd ranked Arizona-snap a 22 game win streak at Mckale Center

You know I’m starting to like when State plays at Mckale center; we just can’t lose there. Aztecs beat Arizona in a regular season game for the first time since the 1971 season-WOW! Believe or not the Aztecs are 40-4 since last season-Incredible! Well, I don’t know about you, but if this is considered a “re-building” season, then KEEP RE-BUILDEN!!! This team came out and shot lights out from beyond the arc. The Aztecs were on fire from the start leading 21-4 with less than 7 minutes to go in the first half. Alec Williams started to show what he’s made of; played 4 minutes and made it count. You got to love the silent killer: Tim-Take-a-Charge-Shelton. Jamaal Franklin (broken nose and all) made critical three-pointers down the stretch to … Read entire article »

NBA Lockout: 10 Rookies Who Would Have Been Better off Staying in the NCAA

NBA Lockout: 10 Rookies Who Would Have Been Better off Staying in the NCAA

Yes-you guessed it! One of them was kawhi! I’m still not convinced that Kawhi Leonard is going to be a great NBA player, although my fears were drastically reduced when the San Antonio Spurs showed confidence in him. The problem is that Leonard is good at everything but doesn’t have a single skill that stands out. I would have liked to see him spend one more season at San Diego State and really work on one aspect … Read entire article »

Aztec’s emasculate Southern Utah: Go 2-0!

Aztec’s crush Southern Utah 70-37. 13 points by Jamaal Franklin coupled with 3 assists and 2 steals in 27 minutes. He was spectacular as expected. The high-flyin Jamaal makes his debut in electric fashion. Tapley rips off 5 steals (8 for the season) and ends the night with 16 points, 5 of 9 shooting. Defense was ruthless; suffocating and impregnable and you almost had to feel for SUU; SDSU forced 26 turnovers resulted in 19 points making a spectacle of this match up. Albeit, the Aztec’s had 20 turnovers; therefore, no need to celebrate too long. The impetuous play still lends itself to erratic play that will be costly when playing against better talent. Yes, this is a “rebuilding” year and I know its early; but, man if this team is … Read entire article »

Aztecs go to 5-3 against worst team in the 120 Team Div-I League

Aztecs were less than impressive in their first-half hard fought win against arguably the worst team in the last two years in Division-I football. Wow, a 7 point lead going into the second-half was unnerving to say the least as a fan. Watching the game during the first-half had me reminiscing about the Aztec’s of yesteryear; meaning, playing inconsistent football coupled with finding ways to keep teams in the game and subsequently lose. Well, they didn’t do that tonight and found a second-half gear to dismantle any residual threat by New Mexico to win 35-7. Ronnie Hillman gets player of the game once again with 29 carries for 143 yards. Article viewed:141 … Read entire article »

2011-12 Aztec Basketball Projected Starting Line-up

2011-12 Aztec Basketball Projected Starting Line-up

If I were asked to sum up the 2011-12 SDSU Basketball team in one word it would have to be enigma. Ostensibly, SDSU is not the team it was last year. In fact, it is far removed from the year that will go down as one of the greatest in Aztec’s history. Gone from the team are the key components of the 34-3 team; namely, Billy White, Malcolm Thomas, D.J. Gay and most notably Kawhi … Read entire article »

SDSU verse TCU

What can I say: SDSU is three-touchdown under dog. Not going to sugar coat it; if SDSU wins this game it will go down as the greatest win in Aztecs history and arguably one of the major upsets in college football in quite some time. Good luck Aztecs. I just hope we can keep the score within three touchdowns. Aztecs lose this one 45-28. Article viewed:121 … Read entire article »

Attendance at games still remains luke-warm!

They are who we thought they might be-the football program that is. Incredulous as it may seem (or appear), the SDSU Football program well-is good! And to my confoundment they (knock on the proverbial wood) will be “bowling” in December (12 years sure is a long time to wait); however, better late than never (pardon the banal cliche). So, I ask myself, if they win the fans will come-right? Not exactly. The attendance this year has improved somewhat, but attendance issues remain prevalent despite the recent success. In 2009, the average attendance was 24,464 per game. Unimpressive indeed when one harkens back to the year 1977 when the average attendance reached a mind-boggling 42,040 per game. My humble prognostication has the Aztecs entering the Utah game at 7-3. If the Aztecs play … Read entire article »

Aztecs Win without Style

If their is such a thing as an ugly win, the Aztecs just gave us one. This game was terrible from start to finish but, it was a win. Given past efforts SDSU would have lost the game if played as poorly as they did tonight. I for one expected them to blow New Mexico out!! Call it a let down; or, looking ahead to next opponent; whatever it may be, they must stop playing down to their competition. The Aztecs need to capitalize on opportunities like this game and score some style points. Aztecs 30 – New Mexico 20 And no it wasn’t close! Article viewed:115 … Read entire article »
