What a game! What-a-Game!!!
Jamaal dribbble drives the lane and lays the ball up to the rim with seconds left AND IT DROPS–AZTECS WIN!! Vejas Arena was indeed electric. With a sold out crowd chanting “I believe that we will win” and the Aztecs doing all of the “Runnin”, you almost had to feel sorry for UNLV: No-not really! I was taking it all-in as I watched the Aztecs beat, once again, the UNLV Rebels. For the sixth straight time the Aztecs show why they are for real despite the experts preseason proclamation that the Aztecs were going to be in a “Rebuilding” year.
James Rahon aka Tres-man, lit-it up from behind the arc; finishing 3 of 5 from three-point land and amassed 22 points. Surprisingly, It was Jamaal Franklin who showed why he is an important piece to the success of the Aztecs. With his electric athleticism, Jamaal hit critical shots and the game winning layup to launch the Aztecs past UNLV for the sixth time. Jamaal had 24 points and is my player of the game. Contemplating UNLVs game strategy last night I thought for sure that they would run-and-gun most of the evening in an effort to tire SDSUs short bench. However, the Aztecs held strong and showed an unequivocal strength down the stretch, holding tough against UNLVs late surge. It was encouraging to say the least, because the Aztecs are soon set to embark on a high altitude adventure with a 7-man rotation.
“This was a wonderful college game,” SDSU head coach Steve Fisher said. “Obviously, we are the team smiling today. We have had so many games just like this with UNLV. We have been on the good side as of late. UNLV is a really exceptional team.”
Both teams started the game off in a hurry, running and gunning in transition on several occasions. It was an electric atmosphere and the game lived up to the hype; as it does every year by the way. The Aztecs led most of the game, shooting 44 percent on the day. Tapley had an off night with only a 11 points. “We just focused on our defensive schemes,” said Tapley, “They are a good pick-and-roll team … we had to really trust our defense and follow the schemes. We did that Grade-A today.”
ahhhh….this is a rebuilding year right!
