Alec Williams has left the San Diego State men’s basketball program, Aztecs head coach Steve Fisher announced Friday. “Alec has been a very important member of the team the last three seasons,” Fisher said in a statement. “He has worked extremely hard as a student-athlete at San Diego State. We wish him well as he pursues other opportunities with regard to playing time.” Williams, a 6-foot-7 forward, played 43 games the last three seasons. He had career totals of 128 points, 45 rebounds, seven assists and four blocked shots. “I really enjoyed the past three years,” Williams said in a statement. “I love San Diego and San Diego State. I am making an individual choice to pursue my basketball career elsewhere.” Williams appeared in 21 games last season as a junior, including four starts. He averaged 4.0 points and 2.1 rebounds. As a third-year sophomore last fall, San Diego State running back Ronnie Hillman played only two years of college football.But Hillman (5-feet-10, 192 pounds) said Friday night that he couldn’t be more ready to carry the ball for the Denver Broncos. “I’ve been wanting to play in the NFL for a awhile,” Hillman told reporters at Dove Valley during a teleconference. “I just felt it was time to leave.” The Broncos moved up in the third round to nab Hillman with the fourth pick in the round, No. 67 overall. Not since Evan Burns was recruited back in 2002 has there been such a buzz on top of the Mesa. Evan Burns was ranked thirteenth in the country based on the recruiting services consensus index (RSCI). He was a McDonald’s All-American and scored 11 points in the All-Star game at Madison square Garden; nevertheless, the highly touted Evan Burns “failed” himself and SDSU and was dismissed on August 1st 2003 for failure to meet academic responsibilities after playing just one year for SDSU. Fast forward ten years and look what just walked onto the Mesa: Mr. Winston Shepard! Although Winston only commands a 42 RSCI, he still managed to receive 5-Stars from Rivals.com (4-Stars if you rely on ESPN).
