SDSU loses to UNM: Who cares! We landed Shepard!!!

SDSU loses to UNM: Who cares! We landed Shepard!!!

San Diego State lost the game. But it won the recruit. Four-star prospect Winston Shepard, a 6-foot-9 guard/wing/post from Findlay Prep in Henderson, Nev., called Coach Steve Fisher on Thursday morning and orally committed to the Aztecs. The blockbuster commitment came just hours after the Aztecs lost 77-67 at Viejas Arena to New Mexico, the only other school Shepard has visited. “I just felt comfortable with Coach Fisher and the staff,” said Shepard, who can’t sign a … Read entire article »

We GOT’EM! UVA’s James Johnson transfers to San Diego State

James Johnson left the city of San Diego to attend Virginia for a year and half – and now he’s coming back to California. On Thursday, Johnson announced he was transferring to San Diego State. “I wanted to come to a place where I could grow my game and grow as a person,” Johnson told the San Diego Union-Tribune.  The 6-foot-10 sophomore big man left the Cavaliers in December, and visited San Diego State on Tuesday. During his time in Charlottesville, Johnson appeared in only six games for Tony Bennett’s club. He redshirted his freshman season to develop his game and then was stuck behind Mike Scott and Akil Mitchell on the depth chart this season. Johnson was a top-100 player out of high school, developing most of his basketball skills during the nine years … Read entire article »

Former Trojan Baxter headed to SDSU?

Former USC running back Dillon Baxter appears to be headed to San Diego State, according to several reports. Baxter announced in November he was leaving and is apparently waiting on some paperwork details to make the move to SDSU complete. Baxter’s arrival, presuming everything goes okay, is an interesting development considering star RB Ronnie Hillman announced he is leaving the Aztecs for the NFL. Baxter could get a shot to be a lead back fairly soon. Although he has indicated that he would like to play wide receiver. Lets hope this report is accurate. As the article indicated, it is ironic and coincidental timing with Hillman leaving that this report surfaces about Dillon Baxtor. I also have to believe that SDSU moving to the Big East had some influence on Baxtor’s decision; assuming this report … Read entire article »

Hillman goes Pro!

Unfortunately, Hillman has decided to pull a Kawhi Leonard by entering into the Professional arena (i.e., NFL Draft) after his sophomore year. However, this isn’t Basketball, an regardless of what Hillman’s ego is telling him, the NFL is far less forgiving when it comes to a transitional period. In other words, Hillman got bad advice. Hillman is undersized; performed poorly during the bowl game; and, when playing big time opponents (i.e., Michigan, TCU, etc.) he crumbled. This receipe produces at best a late pick; meaning, its highly likely that he will get picked in the late third or fourth round; if, and only if, he has a stellar combine. Bottom line:  Hillman needed one more year to develop and grow. If he had stayed and replicated his performance from the … Read entire article »

Hey Coaches and ESPN: I think the Aztecs are a Top 25 team!

Hey Coaches and ESPN: I think the Aztecs are a Top 25 team!

If ESPN had their way, I am certain that SDSU would remain out of the Top 25. Nevertheless, let us examine the facts. Texas A&M who is currently ranked number 25 in the AP Poll and 24th in the ESPN coaches poll, beat St. Johns by one-point back on Novemeber 18th. Why is this significant you ask?  St. John’s lost to Arizona (81-72) on November 17th when Arizona was ranked 16th in the nation. SDSU … Read entire article »

The Lion has died: Joe Pa Fired!

The Lion has died: Joe Pa Fired!

Incredulity immediately comes to mind after confronting the reality of all that has occurred at Penn State. Having grew up a couple hours from Happy Valley, I had the fortunate opportunity to see Joe-Pa and the Nittany Lions play in Beaver Stadium. It was electric; memorable and will remain with me forever.Yet, I struggle, as I’m sure many of you are as well, over the recent abhorrent and tragic revelations regarding the violations allegedly committed … Read entire article »

More major realignment could happen in near future

In college football 22 teams in a conference is a crowd; 32 teams bundled together could be utter chaos. But this is how Fresno State and 31 other teams feel after the recent rumors that surfaced over the weekend. The Boston Globe reported that the Big East Conference has a plan to combine with two non-automatic-qualifying conferences in the Mountain West Conference and Conference USA to help it maintain its AQ status and provide the luxury to the formers. The Big East just recently lost Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the Atlantic Coast Conference and is looking for ways to save its AQ status if it wants to continue to have the opportunity to award its conference champion a shot at a Bowl Championship Series game at season’s end. The plan for the … Read entire article »

Conference-USA and Mountain West Announce College Football Merger

Today, the Mountain West and C-USA announced their football-only merger, creating what looks to be a 20- to 22-team super conference or alliance. No official announcement has been made about a name change, but this new football alliance will spread across the entire United States, with universities in 16 different states. This may effect the possible departures of ECU, Boise State, Air Force, Houston and San Diego State. ECU has made it abundantly clear that it … Read entire article »
