4-Star Norman Powell is considering SDSU

May 21

Powell is a dynamic shooting guard that is getting a lot of attention; specifically from schools such as: UCLA, Arizona State, California and most importantly SDSU. ESPN has rated the 4-Star at 93, but that may go higher as he continues to improve his play. From my perspective it’s no-brainer; he would fit perfectly into the Fisher schematic. Ostensibly, he possesses the prototypical characteristics that Fisher looks for: athleticism, quickness and a basketball savvy.

Hopefully Powell will be paying attention to this years SDSU team; that team will give pause to anyone who is on the recruiting radar of SDSU. This team is poised to go deep and rise Nationally in the ranks as well garner huge attention from the “elite” media. As a shooting guard he would serve well under James Rohan for the first year, than take over as the starter for at least three years (assuming he does not go Pro).

Powell has some good schools to select from; but, honestly, SDSU is by far the best on the list. Why? Considering the momentum alone is enough to sell any athlete. Xavier Thomas was quoted as saying: “it’s the place to be” when he finally made his decision. Also, SDSU ‘s ascension in the ranks of top 25 programs has lent itself a reputation that draws the attention of all super-star recruits, Powell is no exception. With a state-of-the-art athletic complex; championship runs and regular appearances in the NCAA tournament, why would Powell consider going anywhere else.

Nick Sherry gets an offer!

Mar 30

Nick Sherry was recently offered a full scholarship from SDSU. He is a prototypical QB at 6-4, 220 lbs. This would be a good pick-up, considering the other schools that are interested in him: Arizona, UCLA and USC to name a few.

2011 Prospect: Spencer Dinwiddie

Mar 10

Got to love that name! Spencer is shaping up as one of the top point guards in the west.  He is getting noticed by some of the top schools in the nation (i.e., ASU, UCLA, Kansas, SDSU and more). Excerpts from the Los Angelos times tell the story:

“Dinwiddie’s long arms and size make him a promising defensive player, with his length causing opponents problems.”

“His skill level is improving rapidly,” Taylor said. “His level of intelligence rivals Jordan Farmar.”

And its that Atheleticism that’s got Coach Fisher noticing. Spencer has had a banner year, improving his game considerably since starting as a freshman. Currently, he starts for Taft High School, averaging 5.8 PPG while shooting a blistering 53% from behind the Arc! Spencer would be a perfect fit for SDSU; his length and intelligence would mesh well with a Fisher-style offense that demands a lot of leadership from the point guard position.

2010 Recruiting Class is shaping up early

Feb 5

Ask and you shall receive. A true point guard is what SDSU needed, so that’s what they got. LaBradford Franklin, out of Great Oak H.S California, one of the top point guards in the country (#23) is a dynamic guard that will add the game management currently being supplied by DJ Gay ( a shooting guard). He also possesses a solid outside game with high percentage shooting from the arc–a talent that is sorely missing this year.

LaBradford is a highly touted recruit that received interest from notables such as Gonzaga, Cal, Arizona, and Stanford; also, Nevada, Fresno State and Washington State. ESPN gives him a scout grade of 91; declaring him as an immediate prospect.

SDSU is starting a tradition; a tradition of winning. It’s clear that the local community is taking notice. It’s enough notice that star athletes are taking notice and are now committing. It’s always a pleasure to steal athletes away from schools such as Gonzaga; they and others have been pillaging prized athletes from this area for decades.  The video below will give you some idea of how good LaBradford can be; as good as Kwahi in his first year, well, maybe not but certainly a vast improvement at point guard ( no offense to DJ).

Steal of the Year: Leonard gives Solid Verbal!

Oct 23

Kawhi Leonard, a 6-foot-5, 210-pound versatile wing from Riverside (Calif.) Martin Luther King gives SDSU the A-Okay with a Solid verbal. This might very well be the steal of teh year in NCAA recruiting class of 2009. Memphis, UCLA, not even Arizona could get to him. Its all about the weather and the beaches my Aztec cronies. Reports have him as a high-major prospect with NBA skill-set. His high school play gives every indication that he will be a solid 3-point shooter; averaging a whopping 45% from the arc. Averaging 17.2 ppg, he will be a challenge to stop. This player not only adds depth to an already potent class of recruits, he adds perimeter scoring power too. See Video below of his play.
