Aztec’s give Colorado State a Gift
It was ugly; they were tired, and to say the least the effort was lackadaisical at best. SDSU looked pathetic; and, more importantly they showed little effort what-so-ever: Xavier Thames, James Rahon and Tapley were a combined 6 for 36. Kudos to Jamaal for a great individual effort, but one man does not make a team. Colorado Sate’s timing could not have been better; they found SDSU when they were at their most vulnerable. Despite what Fisher had to say, travel to and from Wyoming given the fiasco that occurred getting there, and then going back to play at altitude against a desperate team a couple of days later was simply a recipe for disaster. This is a bad loss and will hurt SDSU considerably. Look for the Aztec’s to fall at least 5 … Read entire article »

What do George Ziengenfuss and Steve Fisher have in common?
Well, one was and the other is the Head coach of the SDSU Basketball program. Ziengenfuss was the head men’s basketball coach at San Diego State University from 1948 until 1969. He tallied 316 wins and five conference championships during his twenty-two year tenor as head coach. He was a Basketball purist; a consummate purveyor of the game’s fundamentals. “He was … Read entire article »
Aztec’s win ugly shoot’s down Air Force!
It wasn’t pretty; in fact, in some instances is was down right ugly. Sloppy transition play the led to errant run-and-guns by SDSU kept Air Force close during most of the game. Going scoreless fior 6:05 minute stretch highlighted by Rahon missing three free throws. Finally, they decided to play their game with dribble-drives and strength in the paint. LB makes a great cross-over and beuatiful runner to score two! Then Tapley gets three consecutive driving lay-ups to finish off Air Force. Aztec’s win 57-44 in front of another sellout at Vejas Arena; 10 consecutive wins now leading the conference by one full game. Deshawn Stephans is starting to show confidence; getting better game-by-game and his free … Read entire article »
Air Force at San Diego State
San Diego State received just a single vote in the AP preseason poll after last season’s trip to the NCAA regional semifinals, an indication of the rebuilding job many felt Steve Fisher faced after losing his top four scorers. Turns out the 16th-ranked Aztecs might be capable of an even deeper run this March. Coming off perhaps the program’s two best victories of the season, San Diego State tries to avoid a letdown and extend its winning streak to 10 on Saturday night against visiting Air Force. Kawhi Leonard, Malcolm Thomas, Billy White and D.J. Gay are all gone from the team that gave eventual national champion Connecticut all it could handle in the round of … Read entire article »
Aztecs empty “the Pit” again!
Well, now I completely understand why Drew Gordon decided to go to New Mexico: he’s no good! In any event, the Aztecs post another strong win on the road and in the pit no-less. The bench pulled through tonight and at altitude that turned out to be an important contribution. Defense disrupted passing lanes; forced steals and and snubbed Drew Gordon in the paint all night. LB had 9 points, 2 assist and no turnovers for the night. I’ll stop short of calling this his break out game, but we needed him to contribute and he did so in solid fashion. Thames had 22 points and will go down as my player of the game. … Read entire article »
Big-Boy Siragusa pulls the lever on SDSU
6-6, 300 pound Nico Siragusa made it official Sunday night when he called to confirm his commitment to SDSU. The offensive line is shaping up to be one of the best ever and Aztec fans should be excited about the upcoming season. With Siragusa; Austin Mass (6-4, 275); Kwayde Miller (6-8, 290); and Author Flores (6-6, 295) no longer will … Read entire article »
What a game! What-a-Game!!!
Jamaal dribbble drives the lane and lays the ball up to the rim with seconds left AND IT DROPS–AZTECS WIN!! Vejas Arena was indeed electric. With a sold out crowd chanting “I believe that we will win” and the Aztecs doing all of the “Runnin”, you almost had to feel sorry for UNLV: No-not really! I was taking it all-in as I watched the Aztecs beat, once again, the UNLV Rebels. For the sixth straight time the Aztecs show why they are for real despite the experts preseason proclamation that the Aztecs were going to be in a “Rebuilding” year. James Rahon aka Tres-man, lit-it up from behind the arc; finishing 3 of 5 from three-point land … Read entire article »
We GOT’EM! UVA’s James Johnson transfers to San Diego State
James Johnson left the city of San Diego to attend Virginia for a year and half – and now he’s coming back to California. On Thursday, Johnson announced he was transferring to San Diego State. “I wanted to come to a place where I could grow my game and grow as a person,” Johnson told the San Diego Union-Tribune. The 6-foot-10 sophomore big man left the Cavaliers in December, and visited San Diego State on Tuesday. During his time in Charlottesville, Johnson appeared in only six games for Tony Bennett’s club. He redshirted his freshman season to develop his game and then was stuck behind Mike Scott and Akil Mitchell on the depth chart this season. Johnson was a top-100 … Read entire article »
Are the Aztecs worthy: we will find out on Saturday!
As much as I loath UNLV, the prospect of losing to the Rebels this year is somewhat troubling. Remember the Aztecs are in a “rebuilding” year; so, if UNLV is to get lucky and steal a game from SDSU at Vejas, this year is probably it. Now, don’t get me wrong, I still believe that SDSU is clearly the better team (even in a rebuilding year), and more importantly has thrashed UNLV over and over again over the last several meetings: A streak that I have relished over again and again. UNLV brings to Vejas a team SDSU faced last year excluding one of the thorns by the name of Trevon Willis. They score well and … Read entire article »
